Marketing is a term people throw around every day and chances are they really do not know what it means for them personally. Social networking is your chance to market yourself the way you want a professional to see you. Turn your social networking page into a complement to a stellar interview and robust resume.
When you are being interviewed for a job there is a very good chance that your potential employer is also going to search the web for information about you. Many things are out of your control when you are waiting to hear back from an employer, so you should control what you can. Please make sure that all your social networking is done in a mature and appropriate manner. Pictures and content found on your page can tell a potential employer a great deal about you.
Furthermore, the things that other people post on your page can also reflect on your character. It is a good thing to stay in touch with old friends or college buddies but your social networking page can really be a company’s first impression of you so make it count. This is your opportunity to separate yourself from the pack. Do not be ashamed to include content on your page that an employer might be interested in or find desirable (i.e. you were in an honor society, student government- or do volunteer work). Do not include any content on your page that you would not openly share in an interview.
