My background is online news and, believe it or not, I occasionally miss the pressure of the deadline-every-second atmosphere of the newsroom. That’s why I think it’s kind of fun when a client has an incredibly short turnaround time to get a Web site up and functioning.
We had that experience this month. A client needed to urgently reach the general public, opinion leaders and decision makers. Within a week of agreeing to a contract, we produced a Web site that was not only informative, but also included functionality to allow users to easily send a pre-written letter to local legislators supporting our client.
Getting it up and running was a real team effort. Our designers quickly got some comps to the client; the account executives worked closely with the client to get approval for the designs and material for the site content; and the developers built the back-end technology in just a few days.
Of course, sometimes when things are moving this quickly the entire situation changes and the site is never launched. In this case, we’re on hold so … we’re catching our breath until the next urgent situation develops.
I need a Web site — quick!!
